2022 Holiday Gift Guides Day 4 - “For Teachers”
I’m going to preface today’s gift guide by saying there’s probably nothing we can get teachers that will ever come close to equaling the thanks we owe them for all that they do. I’m close friends with many teachers and know too well how much they give — financially, emotionally, and mentally to their profession. I think everyone wants to gift teachers a THING - an object, a tangible item - because we all know how hard they work and that they deserve something special. So let’s do that — give things. But don’t give them just the things. Teachers are spending what money they have on classroom basics from supplies to books to snacks for families that don’t send in enough food. Based on the research I’ve done and the teachers I’ve polled, the absolute best gift you can give is MONEY. That can be cash or gift cards (Amazon + Target are best) so go ahead and find a cute thing or two but don’t give them just that. Give it in addition.
GIFT GUIDE DAY 4: FOR TEACHERS
These fill-in-the-blank thank you books for teachers are so cute for kids of writing age to complete. I’ve had teachers tell me words from the heart and hearing from the kids are really touching moments for them professionally.
In the pandemic I gave this really nice non-drying hand sanitizer as my add-on gift. You might laugh but it was hard to find and a total necessity for classrooms! A dermatologist recommended it to me. Hopefully we’re at a juncture where I can skip the sanitizer and go for more luxe lotion. This is a two-in-one gluten free, vegan hand lotion that also has antibacterial properties.
This customizable kit comes in 38 colors and features a host of add-ons like candy, note pads, bath salts, etc. Succulents are easy options to enjoy in the classroom because you almost NEVER have to water them. They will thrive off humidity.
If you’re not familiar with author Amy Rosenthal, I’m here to ruin your day. She was a beautiful filmmaker and author who tragically died at 51 from ovarian cancer. She’s well-known for a variety of sweet stories like “Dear Girl,” one written close to the time of her death with her daughter, Paris Rosenthal. Paris has gone on to write “Dear Teacher,” a loving memoir of gratitude to teachers, coaches, and mentors.
If your teacher has a rich sense of humor, they may appreciate this hilarious candle. I laughed out loud when I saw it. Perhaps fitting for parents whose kids drive the teachers a little nuts? Again, this is a humorous gift so don’t forget to pair it with a generous gift card. Especially if your kid is a hot mess.
I spoke to a lot of teachers that get cold in classrooms. A wrap or poncho is an easy option they can throw on over whatever they’re wearing for a quick warm-up.
Classroom items go missing all the time. Why not replenish the supply with sweet, customized pencils with your own message. Like: “Mrs. Smith ROCKS.” The kids will get a kick out of using them and the teachers will get a laugh — and have a better job keeping track of them!
